Life Lessons From a Dish Rag
While staying at my friend Pam’s home in North Carolina, I woke up one morning tired and groggy. As I rolled over, I glanced across the room at a small white and green dishtowel with the words printed on it “Hope Heals”. The towel had been placed over a window above the kitchen sink to block out the morning sun. As I laid there pondering those two words, my heart was filled with comfort and joy — yes indeed — hope does heal!
For the next while, in the quietness of the morning, I pondered the thought that life without hope leads to discouragement, despair and ultimately death of ones emotional soul. But when HOPE is FOUND, even a cold, dark heart can beat once again! “Hope deferred (lost) makes the heart sick…but a promise kept (hope found) is a tree of life.” Proverbs 13:12
God spoke to me in the still of that morning, reminding me of the calling He has placed upon my life. He has called me to be a “Hope Giver” to those who have lost hope in the midst of life’s challenges. He reminded me, “You are My witnesses, declares the Lord, And I am God. Even from eternity I am He and there is none who can deliver out of My hand.” Isaiah 43:12-13
An hour later, when I finally managed to crawl out of the bed and make my way over to the window, I pushed back the dishrag and allowed the sun to rush in. I burst out laughing when I saw those two inspiring words, “Hope Heals”, really read….”Herbs – Herbs”! Ok, I need glasses! But that morning, God used my poor vision to speak and encourage my heart.
